TBH: Creating a character

Andrea from Ganesha Games, the author of SBH, FL and another jewels, has published the Volume 1 for his Tales of Blades and Heroes RPG:  Tales of Beasts and Perils Volume One

But now I am going to explain how to create a character for his RPG.

One of the things that I criticized about the Ganesha Games was that I needed a more complex characters, with some skills, more soul, because I love to play scenarios where the characters have to hear, hide or trade with the other characters, not only to kill or be killed.

The RPG from Ganesha maintains the Quality and Combat system, but adds some new elements, that give to the this RPG game a very interesting taste, between wargame and old school RPG.

Let's take a look on them, while I create my new character.

Let's start, he is going to be Slorm a Ranger.

All the characters will start with a Quality of 4+ and a Combat factor of 1. The quality can my improved paying a lot of points, so normally all the characters will start with this Quality. The Combat factor can be improved buying a Light Armour skill, that gives as a Combat of 2. Until here, nothing different. Now starts the RPG taste, the think that I think that makes this game very interesting.

You can buy skill and special rules, that let you to have a proficiency with weapons. For example, Slorm is a ranger that uses the bow with some proficiency and the sword too. So I buy levels to use them, for example Level four for the bow, and three for the sword. So when Slorm has to shoot with the bow he will have a Combat stat of 4, and when he will combat with his sword he will have a C of 3.

What happen with the combat so?, is easy, when Slorm combats with the sword he will use the C of Sword Level 3, if he attacks with his bow C4, but if he is attacked with a bow he will use his normal C factor: 1. If I bought to him the Light Armour skill, he will have a Combat 2, so he can defend himself from the shooting attack with a C2, instead the initial 1.

If you use a weapon for that weapon that you don't have proficiency, you will have a malus of -1 with it.

Also, he knows how to move in the forest, so I buy to him the skill Forester, with it he can walk through the forest with penalizing.

And I want that he will be an agile creature, so I buy Agile, so the character has +1 to Q rolls when performing acts of dexterity and coordination.

All the characters has three main Characteristics: Physical, Mental and Social, they are based on the Quality of the character, but one of them can be downgraded, upgrading another one. Or modified for some special situations, for example Strong boost the quality when the character performs act of strenght.

Now time for buying weapons and clothes, in the Equipment section.

Every player starts with 200 silver coins. I bought a sword, light armor, bow, backpack, quiver, and clothes. All that costed me around 150 silvers, 50 coins in the pocket and ready for starting the adventure.
